Moi Moi! Hello!
Welcome :) I’m Jessi and I’m so excited…nervous and full of vision…to be here with you today! I have a lot to share and poetically express, but I want to introduce myself first, so we can know each other a little better. Break the ice!
I’m a late-thirties woman who loves to create…poetry, photographs, stories and art. I have five young boys and a wonderful husband. We live in South-East Tasmania and adore our wild and raw island home. I’m half-Finnish and am very much in love with all things Scandinavian :)
1. Why this, why now?
Hmmm….great question prompt! I’ve spent the past 14years in stages of pregnancy, miscarraige, post-partum, breastfeeding and nurturing babes and now teenagers. Along the way, I have had seasons of losing my own self…finding myself lost in the forest. It wasn’t until two years ago that I started to realise that I was grieving who I was before I became a mother. I started to express my experience of motherhood and grief and overwhelm through poetry and photography and began my journey towards a creative career. Self-publishing an art book is my first major project and Substack came to my attention during my mentoring session ‘at the table’ with the wonderful Tess Guinery. A beautiful platform to allow me to express my ongoing creative timeline.
2. What kind of community are you looking to build here?
I am looking to build a community of creatives who love to explore each other’s artful expressions. I want to be surrounded by people to love to think and reflect and express in their unique and wild ways. Get to the raw roots of our experiences and find inspiration in solidarity. A lot of my experiences are intertwined with motherhood, but I know that I have a diverse well of life experiences and ongoing creative pursuits to give as well.
3. What can you expect from me?
This is the beginning… I am planning to share a thoughtful letter each week…this may be prose, poetry, thoughts or images. I do love a good photo essay!! As I become more familiar with this platform I will hope to also share smaller snippets of my life and understandings throughout the week.
4. Thankyou!
Thankyou for reading and encouraging me with your presence! I’m really excited to get sharing!
